Ladies’ Group

Your browser may not support display of this image.Like many events in February, our Ladies’ Group meeting was cancelled because of the snow.  The footpaths and approach to the schoolroom were  treacherous.  The next meeting will be on Wednesday 11th March, when we will be visited by representatives from the South Yorkshire Air Ambulance.   Please make a special effort to support this worthy cause and perhaps bring a friend.  We hope to send a worthwhile donation.

We all send our best wishes to Mary Briggs, who is in the process of moving home to Massham.  We will miss her enthusiasm.

Annual New Year Dinner

Once again an excellent meal provided by Angela and friends from the Snake Pass.  Thankfully, we enjoyed the wonderful evening with lots of sun on the day before the snow came.  How fortunate!

Our next chance to eat together will be following the A.G.M., which will be held on March 29th – hope to see you there.

On Wednesday 8th April, Melodic Swing Jazz, a jazz trio (violin, piano and double bass) will perform at Upper Chapel.  £10.

The Inquirer

“The voice of British and Irish Unitarians and Free Christians”

Did you realise that the Chapel orders a copy of the fortnightly magazine “The Inquirer” for people to borrow?  Early February’s issue had interesting articles on Charles Darwin.  This time the leading article centres on visions of Jesus.  There are always topical letters from members nation-wide as well as progress reports on projects from many chapels up and down the country.  These magazines are always available for you to borrow from the back pew.  Why not have a nosey?

Did You Know?

The phrase ‘Sleep tight’ derives from the fact that early mattresses were filled with straw and help up with rope stretched across the bed frame.  A tight sleep was a comfortable sleep.

Condolences

We offer our condolences to the family of Lorraine Ann Pullen who died on 10th February aged 46 years. The funeral was conducted by June Pettitt at Underbank Chapel, followed by a burial at Wisewood Cemetery.
Baptism
Our best wishes to Phoebe Grace Townsend who was christened by June Pettitt in our Sunday morning service on February 8th. Best wishes to all the family. It is good to see big brother Jake again: Jake is now over two years old.
