'Our Young People' September 2011 - Raising Money for Sheffield Children's Hospital

Harry and Phoebe Revitt have received a letter of thanks from The Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity for their donation of £119.67 from their sale of plums, biscuits and buns.  The plum tree in their garden was laden so they bagged up the plums into large and small bags.  Along with friends Beth, Emily and Will they went to each house in the road and the next road and asked passers-by if they would like to help the Children’s Hospital by buying plums.  This led to a further venture – they made biscuits and buns and sold those also. The letter said the money would be used “to buy a special new piece of equipment for the doctors and nurses to use, or maybe to make the hospital a much brighter and more cheerful place for poorly children”.

All five friends received a certificate.

October 16th (2011) from the Yorkshire Unitarian Union

From Jim Timiney..........................

Hello fellow Unitarians

I will be coming to lead your worship on the 16 October and your Minister June Pettitt has asked me to write a short summary of my Unitarian connection.

My older sister took me to Broadway Avenue Unitarian Church in Bradford when I was around two years old. I always felt at home and at ease at Broadway with its ideals of religious freedom and tolerance.

I started doing services some twenty years ago when the church was going through a difficult period and at some point some of the other Yorkshire Unitarian Churches and Stockton asked me to lead their worship. Broadway closed down in 2006 and the congregation moved to the other Bradford church where we have formed a new congregation together, calling ourselves Bradford Unitarians and I lead worship there occasionally. I am currently the President of the Yorkshire Lay Preachers Association and am a past President of the Yorkshire Unitarian Union

I am looking forward to meeting you all at Underbank chapel as so is my wife Shirley who is a great support.

Kind Regards - Jim Timiney
