Something about me
by Underbank Chapel’s Minister
I started at Underbank Chapel as Minister in November 2006. Underbank Chapel is in the Unitarian and Free Christian tradition, so in order to explain how I came to where I am now, I would first have to explain how I became a Unitarian. I was brought up as a Methodist and I have fond memories of being a part of Lund Park Methodist Church in Keighley as a child. However in my teens I stopped going to church. I had doubts about certain mainstream Christian doctrines and did not think that there would be a church where I could be accepted, and where I could develop my own spirituality.
I was wrong – I discovered the Unitarians. When I eventually moved to Sheffield, I found a spiritual home at the Unitarian Church on Norfolk St, Upper Chapel. There I found the religious and spiritual freedom which enabled me to re-connect with, and develop, my own spirituality. I acknowledge my Christian roots and I value being able to draw from insights from other traditions, and finding a sense of the holy in the natural world.
Having had two children, studied for an MA in Women´s Studies and for a while worked at Mediation Sheffield, I trained to be a Unitarian Minister in the year 2000. Since then I have been Minister with Hull Unitarians, then at Fulwood Old Chapel, Sheffield, and now I am minister at Underbank Chapel.
